One-time economic leader the Harvard professor is departing from the directorate at the artificial intelligence firm, just days after a batch of emails between him and deceased financier the accused trafficker became public.

The economist remarked in a statement that he was "thankful for the opportunity to have served, excited about the potential of the enterprise, and look forward tracking their progress".

The former Harvard president, who previously presided over the Ivy League institution, stated on Monday that he would be withdrawing from public commitments due to his association with the convicted sex offender.

The freshly disclosed emails revealed that the official exchanged messages with Epstein until the 24 hours preceding Epstein's 2019 apprehension for suspected human trafficking of underage individuals.

In additional comments, the technology organization stated it accepted his decision to step down.

"We acknowledge his numerous inputs and the viewpoint he offered to the directors," OpenAI remarked.

Congressional Action

This news follows after the entire Congress of the US legislature agreed on recently to approve a measure that would require the US justice department to release its documents on the case.

The measure will afterward proceed to the office of President Trump for signature. Trump has stated he plans to approve the measure, after changing his position on the matter following pressure from his followers.

Further Repercussions

Following the economist's statement on earlier this week, the Washington think tank, a progressive policy institute in DC where the professor was a researcher, verified that he was no longer associated with the organization.

Summers joined the directorate of OpenAI, which develops the language model, in 2023 - following a unsuccessful effort to replace its chief executive the company leader.
