US actor Pat Finn, who appeared in iconic programs like "Friends", Seinfeld and The Middle, has died aged 60.

The comedy and improvisation performer passed away at his residence in LA on Monday following cancer treatment beginning in 2022, according to media reports.

"Pat never met a stranger - only friends he didn't know yet," his loved ones said in a announcement.

They continued that he had "lived his life fully - with happiness and energy".

An Extensive Television Career

Finn's first television role was on the George Wendt Show in the mid-90s, where he appeared as the brother of the main character.

He was also seen in a repeating character on Murphy Brown between 1995 and 1997.

He starred as Joe Mayo in the show Seinfeld in 1998, depicting a party host who would assign unpleasant chores to his guests.

During the end of the 90s and start of the 2000s, he had guest spots on numerous hit series, such as:

  • King of Queens
  • Friends
  • That '70s Show
  • House, M.D.

Finn was perhaps best known for playing Bill Norwood in "The Middle", starring in eight seasons between 2011 and 2018.

His film credits include It's Complicated (2009) and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups (2012).

A Life in Improv

Away from his acting parts, Finn was deeply involved in improvisational comedy and served as an educator at the Colorado university, where he was a faculty member.

He was involved with a six-member improv team called "Beer Shark Mice".

"Finn guided, supported, and advised countless students throughout the years and you'd be hard-pressed to find a person anywhere who has anything negative to say about him," his family wrote.

Offering condolences, colleague and actor actor Richard Kind noted there was "nobody more kind, gentle, and humorous, authentic human being you could encounter".

"Always positive, making those around him better and funnier. A wonderful father and man," he shared online.

Finn is survived by his wife Donna, three children, and his parents and siblings.
