The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror Merging Silent Hill and Social Deduction Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several fascinating future games, but one especially has captured attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a young woman containing multiple personalities within her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four separate souls, all possessing unique fears and motivations. These souls can seize control at will, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the action takes place within a creepy hospital, though other scenes show the protagonist exploring a desolate church.

An Environment of Personal Horror

"What are you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. People in power. Elements that appear minor to others can trigger something primal inside us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are unique to every individual."

The central gameplay loop involves managing the persona that emerges at any given moment. However, these identities will change involuntarily during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become amplified and attack the protagonist in succession. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice

Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is filled with orderlies who all share the same face, with disturbingly broad grins. Patients in the lobby have enormous blooms growing from their heads are. Flowers are a recurring element, juxtaposing natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four personas claims that the body is rightfully them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."

After a player have deduced a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. However, because each soul can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The last one standing could be a fake. In any case, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is can be follow on digital storefronts.
