The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.
Recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
